Georgia cuts its rate to 4.99% and raises the standard deduction to $15,000
Two changes landed together for 2026, and both reduce the bill. Georgia's own standard-deduction page still shows the old figures, which is why several calculators have this wrong.
The Georgia Department of Revenue’s 2026 income tax changes notice confirms a flat rate of 4.99%, down from 5.09%, and a standard deduction raised to $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married filing jointly — up from $12,000 and $24,000.
The deduction increase is worth more in cash terms than the rate cut for most earners: an extra $3,000 sheltered is about $150 a year, against roughly $60 from the rate reduction.
Worth flagging because the Department’s separate standard-deduction page has not been updated and still displays the 2024–2025 amounts. Anything reading from that page rather than the tax updates notice will overstate Georgia tax for 2026.
